Omeprazole

The stomach acid is produced in cells of the gastric wall. From there it is a transport mechanism, the proton pump, poured into the stomach.

Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor. It blocks the proton pump and thus suppresses the release of stomach acid from the stomach into the stomach. The challenged mucosa is not damaged by the aggressive stomach acids and can heal well.

Omeprazole is often administered in combination with antibiotics, since infection with the bacterium Helicobacter pylori is the cause of frequent complaints.

Interactions
Omeprazole alters the pH in the intestine. Drugs whose absorption into the body are dependent on the pH value can be harmful to be in their effectiveness. Eg: ketoconazole against fungal diseases.

Omeprazole is metabolized by a particular enzyme system (cytochrome P450) in the liver. Theoretically, other drugs that are also metabolized by this enzyme system may respond with omeprazole interactions. These active ingredients are from different drug groups, such as cardiovascular drugs, anticoagulants and anti-epileptic drugs. Detailed investigations of such substances were able to demonstrate any significant interactions. But you can not be excluded.
